MAXIMIZE WAREHOUSE SPACE

HOW TO MAXIMIZE WAREHOUSE SPACE WITHOUT CAUSING INSURANCE ISSUES

There are several ways to increase the capacity of your distribution center without expanding it, if you find yourself running out of space for inventory. One way to do this is by optimizing your warehouse or distribution center’s inventory. This can be a challenge, but it is crucial to maintaining an efficient and effective operation. Another way to increase capacity is by utilizing other process areas in your DC, such as shipping or receiving. By doing so, you can make the most of the space you have and keep your business running smoothly.

One of the biggest issues facing warehouses is congestion. This can lead to extra work, as staff have to move product around to make space. This can be time-consuming and labor-intensive and can impact the efficiency of the whole operation.

Think of it like a multi-car garage. If it’s full, you have to move a car out in order to fit anything else in. The same thing happens in a distribution center. If it’s jam-packed, you’re typically moving inventory in and out, which takes up valuable time and resources.

As businesses grow and gain popularity, they may find that their distribution centers are running out of space. There are a few reasons why this could be happening.

For example, if products are selling quickly and demand is high, more inventory will be needed to keep up with customer demand. Alternatively, if the purchasing department buys more than what is necessary, this can also lead to a shortage of storage space. Lastly, if a large amount of inventory is obsolete or never sells, this can take up valuable space in the warehouse.

In any case, it’s important for businesses to be aware of the possibility of their distribution center running out of space so they can plan accordingly.

Space is a precious commodity in any warehouse, and maximizing that space is crucial for financial success. But what do you do when fire regulations limit the amount of space available? We have the perfect solution for your needs.

CHALLENGE FOR THE WAREHOUSE

A top supplier to the North American automotive industry was sourcing guarding for 200 bays of pallet rack. Due to the nature of the materials stored on the rack, each level required fire suppression which limited their storage capacity.

The sprinkler heads need to be lower than the rack beams in order to allow for maximum storage space. The customer came to us looking for a solution that would be both rigid and porous, and we were able to provide them with exactly what they needed. Steel materials are not an option as they could potentially obstruct the reach of the sprinklers in the event of a fire. We worked closely with the customer’s insurance carrier to ensure that our solution would be approved.

 SOLUTION

The engineer in charge of the project came across the mesh guarding at a national tradeshow and was impressed by the Mesh Guarding. He found that the material was stronger than any other steel mesh product he saw at the show.

Our team designed a 8” high panel to fit below the rack beam and extend the required distance to protect the sprinkler heads adequately. Plus, we provided sample panels to the customer before an order to ensure their insurance carrier was happy with the chosen solution.

CONCLUSION

The company worked closely with another company on this project, who handled all the scheduling, project management and installation. Thanks to their efficient work, they were able to move the ship dates up and meet the customer’s tight timeline. They were so pleased with the results that they’ve since ordered additional materials for another warehouse.
